Length: 1,500 words (including a works cited page using the MLA format)
Weight: 300 points (30% of your grade)
At least 5 sources must be cited in your essay, not including Wikipedia
What solution do you propose to a problem that affects many people? How would you make the world a better place? (Think about your thesis as, “We should/should not….”)
Which events/circumstances make this a time to consider such a solution?
(What facts/statistics/background/etc. support your belief that the problem you’ve identified is significant and needs our attention? Where do things stand today?)

100 points: Essay is well-organized and carefully written and closely follows the assigned format by providing a thesis, background, 2+ supports, 1+ opposition and a rebuttal for each opposition.
100 points: Research is current and has sufficient breadth and depth to provide compelling background, support and opposition.
100 points: Essay follows MLA format for citing sources; provides a properly written Works Cited page; shows judicious use of quoting and paraphrasing.
