ENGWR 300 (Jacobsen) Researching Controversies

A grade-A paper follows MLA, APA, or other style guides to a T.

Use style guides

A style guide states the rules for language, spelling, grammar, formatting, and punctuation. SCC uses the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers or the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.  Ask your instructor which style guide to use.

You can buy style guides at the College Store or online, and the SCC Library has copies.  This page links to online style guides for your reference.

Writing Center

Visit the Writing Center (LR144) and make an appointment for help with your papers. The Center also holds workshops on organizing, thesis statements, and more.

A word about automatic citation generators

Ebsco and other library databases automatically create citations for your Works Cited page, as do other software programs.  Check their work!  Automatic citations may contain mistakes.
