Assignment Description

The next major assignment for ENGWR 302 will be based on the upcoming California election, to be held November 4, 2014.

Each student will choose from the following list one race or proposition to study:

  • Prop. 48: Indian Gaming Compacts
  • Sacramento City Measure L: Strong Mayor
  • Governor: Jerry Brown/Neel Kashkari
  • U.S. Representative District 4: Tom McClintock/Art Moore
  • U.S. Representative District 7: Ami Bera/Doug Ose
  • State Senator District 6: Richard Pan/Roger Dickinson
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction: Tom Torlakson/Marshall Tuck

Write a 1,000 word paper, analyzing your chosen proposition or race, using critical thinking skills.  Answer the question: What is at stake?   Your analysis may include a prediction of the outcome.

  • What are the polls saying?
  • What are your observations?

  • How does California’s new “top two” primary system affect your race?
