Use OneSearch to find books, ebooks, and videos
Find Books, Ebooks & Videos

Look for Books, eBooks & videos

When you understand the broad outlines of your topic, the next step is to find more detail in books, ebooks, media, and articles.

Find Books Using OneSearch

OneSearch finds books, media, and articles from a single search box.  This section shows how to find books, ebooks, and videos.

On the SCC Library page, under the OneSearch tab, type a keyword search for your topic.

For example:

  • graphic arts "vocational guidance"
  • occupational therap* "vocational guidance"
  • psychology "vocational guidance"
  • dental hygienists "vocational guidance"
  • art* careers

When you find useful books, find the SUBJECT words, add them to your list of keywords, and redo the search.

In your results, use the limiters on the left side to narrow down to books (we'll do articles on the next page of this guide):

  1. Uncheck Expanders if your results are large.
  2. Under Source Types, click Show More, then check the boxes for Books, Ebooks, and Videos.
  3. Slide the date bar to update the publication date if needed.
  4. Under Subject, Show More, you can pick the exact subjects you want.

Find books and videos:

  1. Read the abstract (if any) to see if you want the book or video.
  2. Find the location and call number.
  3. You can Request books from the other campuses.

Open ebooks:

  1. Read the abstract to see if you want the ebook.
  2. Click on the PDF Full Text link to open the ebook.
  3. Use the Tools in the right column to search within, save page, email, etc.
  4. Use the Table of Contents or the Go menu to read the ebook.
