Public Libraries

Using Public Libraries

Public libraries offer certain resources not available at the Los Rios libraries, including:

  • Loads of popular and children's books
  • Ebooks and audiobooks you can download to your computer and mobile devices
  • Career resources, including online test preparation
  • Article databases to supplement what Los Rios provides
  • Computers and wi-fi access (including on Sunday, when SCC is closed).

Many services are only available to people who have library cards. Any California resident can get a free library card at Sacramento Public and Yolo County Libraries.

Sacramento Public Library

Bring proof of California residence to any Sacramento Public Library location and you can get a library card. Here are a few specific things Sac Public provides:

  • Access to ReferenceUSA and other databases, including test preparation resources
  • The Sacramento Room, a special collections resource that is great if you are doing a California history project

Yolo County Library

The Yolo County Library has locations in West Sacramento, Davis, Winters and elsewhere. The Arthur F. Turner branch is located just across the parking lot from SCC's West Sacramento Center.
